07-CRXW Wireless CR RADCHEX by Fluke Biomedical to calibrate computed radiography (CR) plate readers and automatic exposure control (AEC)
Departmental, hospital and regional quality assurance:
- single department with a single x-ray room and CR plate reader
- single department with multiple x-ray rooms and CR plate readers
- hospitals with multiple x-ray-departments and CR plate readers
- regional systems for multiple hospitals, departments & CR systems
advantages
- simple, quick, effective and inexpensive quality assurance
- technologists find it very user-friendly
- effective for regional systems responsible for quality assurance of multiple CR facilities
- synchronise with central database
How to use the QA Radchex meter:
- weekly check to determine whether there is equipment calibration ‘drift’
- quick: x-ray machine takes 5 minutes & CR plate reader takes 15 minutes
- plot QA values on graphs to monitor / track weekly trends in ‘drift’
- software (Excel) permanently stores graphs / spreadsheets to database
- software prints hard copy of graphs from database
- periodic monitoring of single or multiple units can be done locally or regionally
- objective & continuous quality assurance
- targeted / corrective action plans (e.g. recalibration) are more cost effective
Note to x-ray technologists regarding ALARA
If you are responsible for ensuring patient radiation exposure ‘As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA)’ on a single or multiple x-ray/CR unit(s), this meter is essential. It’s an all-in-one, systematic way to measure, monitor, track, print and store results of weekly CR equipment ‘tracking’ assessments to produce periodic reports.
